How to read Bitcoin taker volume

Every trade has a maker (who posts a resting limit order) and a taker (who crosses the spread to execute immediately). A taker buy lifts the offer; a taker sell hits the bid. Comparing the two shows which side is being aggressive — willing to pay for instant execution rather than wait. That aggression is what actually moves price.

The taker delta and CVD

The net taker delta is taker buys minus taker sells. Stack those deltas day after day and you get the Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) — a running score of net aggressive buying versus selling. It's a powerful confirmation tool: price rising on positive net taker buying is demand-led and healthier; price rising while net taker flow is negative hints at a weak, short-covering rally that lacks real buyers underneath.

Using order flow

Taker flow is a microstructure lens — it tells you the character of a move, not its direction in advance. It's most useful alongside open interest (is new leverage funding the flow?) and liquidations (is the flow forced?). Together they separate conviction from noise.
